It’s a time of horrifying physical transformations, scary new feelings, and growing interest in activities that you are still not old enough to engage in legally. Common symptoms of puberty include: braces, frizzy hair, baby fat, having a crush on 8th grader Steve Julius, blinding body odor and lame extracurricular interests like the violin or Bedazzling.

P.E.: Tripping Very Publicly is Worse than Puberty

There you are, walking down the street, in a hurry, listening to some thumping music on your iPod so that your stride has unusual pounding purpose. It might be Justin Timberlake, or that one All Saints song from 7th grade, or…or something totally cool, that's all you would be listening to! Anyway, you're getting into it, maybe strutting a little when...

Stup, thwip, flap.

You totally bite it.

Sure, you might not fall all the way on your face, but your vibe? That fell straight through the pavement.

And inevitably it happens on the most crowded section of sidewalk in the whole city, or when you're passing by Steve Julius, smiling coyly but not really looking at him, or when you're walking into the first real interview you've had in months.

No, it's not the end of the world, and yes, you can try to pass it off with a charming, lilting laugh, but damn, it's hard to pull that off when you're working so hard to reestablish balance…

  1. I'd like to pose a topic for debate:

Is it worse to actually hurt yourself when you fall or not be hurt at all? If you get hurt there's a chance for pity which might make you feel less humiliated but you would feel pain and that would suck. Interesting...
